Rio 20 is a major international event in 2012. The challenge will be to adapt the sustainable development agenda in a world undergoing profound transformation. Its success will largely depend on an ambitious reform of the international environmental governance. Beyond the institutional adjustments, the legitimacy and credibility of the current governance arrangements must be strengthened . To do this, the association of non-state actors is a key dimension.
