    Shaping the EU agenda for disability rights 2020-2030

    The European Economic and Social Committee will hold a conference to shape the new EU agenda for disability rights 2020-2030 on 26 February 2020 in the EESC's premises. The aim of the conference is to present the EESC's proposal for the new strategy at a crucial moment in the EU landscape. With a new European Commission, a new European Parliament and a new budget programming period, it is now the perfect timing for a new Disability Strategy that fully takes into account the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCPRD), the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The conference will tackle various areas of work of the EU, drawing attention to the crosscutting character of disability rights.

    CONSULTATION OF THE MINISTER OF LABOUR AND SOCIAL POLICY AND ESC ON THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION'S COMMUNICATION ON "A STRONG SOCIAL EUROPE FOR JUST TRANSITIONS"

    The Bulgarian ESC held a consultation with the Minister of Labour and Social Policy and shared initial comments on the Communication of the European Commission to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions - A Strong Social Europe for Just Transitions.

    ESC: CIRCULAR ECONOMY IS THE FUTURE ECONOMIC MODEL

    “Circular Economy - Features and Opportunities” is the topic of the latest opinion adopted by the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council in 2019. During the plenary discussion ESC members identified the circular economy as a topic "from" and "about" the future that is not so well known to the public but should find its place in public awareness, including by disseminating knowledge and information about it.

    ARNO METZLER EXPRESSED HIS APPRECIATION FOR THE BULGARIAN ESC ACTIVITIES

    Arno Metzler, Chairman of the EESC Group III, is a guest of the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council. Mr Metzler is visiting Sofia for a conference organised by the EESC at the Western Balkans National Assembly: A clear roadmap for progress.

    PROF. DULEVSKI: CIVIL DIALOGUE CAN ACCELERATE THE ACCESSION OF THE WESTERN BALKAN COUNTRIES TO THE EU

    The Bulgarian Economic and Social Council strongly supports the process of rapprochement and accession of the Western Balkan countries to the EU. It is necessary for the institutions of organised civil society in these countries to work closely together to gain synergies in their efforts to accelerate their accession, said Prof. Lalko Dulevski, Ph.D. - President of the Economic and Social Council, at a conference on the Western Balkans: A clear roadmap for progress at the National Assembly. The conference was organised by the European Economic and Social Committee. Bulgarian Commissioner Maria Gabriel, Deputy Chairperson of the National Assembly Christian Vigenin, MEPs, ambassadors, representatives of the EESC and citizens' organizations from Northern Macedonia, Albania, Serbia and Montenegro took part in the forum.

    ESC: THE BUSINESS IS LAGGING BEHIND IN THE PROCESS OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

    The Bulgarian Economic and Social Council adopted the opinion "Challenges to Businesses in the Context of the Digitization of the Economy". With this document the ESC emphasizes on the digital transformation of Bulgarian businesses and restates that two years after the adoption of the Concept for Digital Transformation of Bulgarian Industry (Industry 4.0) there is still no Strategy 4.0. ESC calls for a faster adoption of this strategy and because of the fact that the National Development Strategy "Bulgaria 2030" is being elaborated, which outlines the first strategic goal namely technological transformation.

    THE BULGARIAN ESC PROPOSES THE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME "BULGARIA 2030" TO HAVE A BASIC INTEGRAL GOAL

    The Economic and Social Council (ESC) of Bulgaria hosted a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Finance to discuss the draft vision of the National Development Programme "Bulgaria 2030". The discussion on the goals and priorities of the future strategic document was organised at the request of the Ministry of Finance for consultation and it is the second one on this topic in the ESC.

    ESC of Bulgaria again calls for accelerated adoption of a national strategy for the transition to Industry 4.0

    The Economic and Social Council (ESC) of Bulgaria adopted an opinion on "Challenges Facing Labour in the Context of the Digitization of the Economy". This is yet another ESC position related to the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the development of society. As in previous positions, ESC stresses that, if appropriate and proper policies are implemented, technological developments will lead to positive results and a number of risks will be avoided.
