The EU-China Round Table was set up by a decision of the Heads of State and Government in 2007, and meets twice a year to discuss topics relating to economic and social issues relevant to both parties. The representatives of the European Economic and Social Committee and the Chinese Economic and Social Council elaborate reports and exchange ideas in view to give a civil society contribution for the development of EU-China relationship.

En 2013, la Journée de l'initiative citoyenne européenne rassemblera les parties prenantes et des organisateurs des premières initiatives, afin de discuter des expériences de la première année, des problèmes et réussites, et prépare déjà la révision du règlement en 2015.
Own-initiative Opinion on the “Economic, social and organisational consequences of an aging population”
(Approved with 39 votes in favour, 8 abstentions and no votes against)
Aware that the increase in life expectancy represents a very positive evolution of the Portuguese society, this Opinion promotes an analysis on the impact of aging on public policy and on how society and the state should articulate aiming at finding the most effective responses to this challenge.
This Own-initiative Opinion was based on a University study financed by the European Social Fund.
Own-initiative Opinion on the “Competitiveness of cities, social cohesion and territorial planning”
(Approved with 37 votes in favour, 3 abstentions and 7 votes against)
The main goal of this Opinion was to promote urban public policies, including economic, social and of governance in order to increase the competitiveness of Portuguese cities. It was prepared in a context conditioned by two important factors, namely the current situation of the domestic economy and the changes expected to take place during the next European Programming period 2014-2020.
This Own-initiative Opinion was based on three University studies financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
