The Common Agricultural Policy - 50 years... and a lifetime ahead!

20-21 Mar 2012 The conference will look at the future challenges and opportunities for the EU farm policy from different angles, and predominantly from a civil society perspective. We will draw on the experience of fifty years of development of the most integrated of all EU policies – the common agricultural policy (CAP) and will look at its impact on EU farmers, consumers, rural regions, global food security and trade. The 50th anniversary of the CAP is an excellent opportunity for the EESC to bring all stakeholders together and enable them to express their visions for the future of agriculture in the EU.

21 March 2012, 9.30-13.00 PUBLIC HEARING "Tax and financial havens: a threat to the EU's internal market" Rue Van Maerlant 2, 1040 Brussels "Tax and financial havens" are territories where lax regulations allow the operation of financial institutions and companies of all type. The lack of fiscal controls, the existence of weak prudential supervision rules, the opacity of information for the identification of individuals and legal entities, or any other circumstance of a legal or administrative nature, may explain that businesses operating from these territories enjoy almost total impunity and have intolerable competitive advantages, and immunity against the actions of judicial and administrative authorities of third countries.
