Bulgarian President Plevneliev: the ESC is a platform for civic dialogue in Bulgaria and an irreplaceable partner of the state institutions in formulating policies for socio-economic development
The Economic and Social Council of Portugal (ESC) warns that the return of the country to the financial markets will not mean that the serious problems affecting the Portuguese economy will be solved. Those issues will continue to negatively condition economic growth and job creation. Indeed, some of them - such as unemployment and public debt as a percentage of GDP – have been aggravated by the implementation of the Economic and Financial Adjustment Programme (EFAP) sponsored by the IMF, the ECB and the European Commission.

It’s about Europe, it’s about YoUth!
18-20 Apr 2013
2013 is an exciting year for ‘Your Europe, Your Say!’ – the annual event that brings school pupils and their teachers to the heart of Europe to put their views to European Union decision-makers. Why? Because 2013 is the European Year of Citizens. ‘It’s about Europe, it’s about you’ is the motto for the year. At the European Economic and Social Committee, we believe it must also be about YoUth! On 18-20 April 2013 we are inviting about 100 school students to Brussels to make their voices heard at a simulated plenary session of the Committee.
Madrid, 31 January 2013. Marcos Peña, President of the Spanish Economic and Social Council, highlighted the consensus of the social partners and of organized civil society as the great contribution of the Council’s report, New economic governance in the European Union and growth, drawn up and adopted by its plenary session with all votes in favour. “We tried to speak with a single voice and this consensus is what we have contributed – a common analysis and joint proposals,” he said at the opening of today’s event to launch the report which the Council adopted at the end of last year. He stressed that the novelty is not so much the analysis of the adjustments needed in EU institutional structure as the fact that all the organizations represented on the Council agree as to which are really indispensable.
